It has continuing characters and does mention things that happened in previous books, but each book focuses on one couple and their story. We also learn more about Gwen’s true heritage and we see why she feels at home in the land of dragons. While this is third in the series, there isn’t a demanding need to read the previous books to understand what’s going on here. The author gives enough background information to make this a standalone even with the continuing villainy that has traveled through each of these books. Silas’ country is slowly dying from the inside.

Ultimately this was a truly fun read that I’d recommend to any and all paranormal romance junkies! I for one have now added Books 1 and 2 to my leaning tower of TBR list. Kerrelyn Sparks delivered another winner with the third installment. This time the story is set in the land of Norveshka and we get to see their majestic dragons from up close.

All in all, not a win for me, which is a bummer cause I adore anything about dragons and I really wanted to love this. You can listen to audiobooks purchased on Google Play using your computer’s web browser. Install the Google Play Books app for Android and iPad/iPhone.
Gwen’s gift wasn’t as much a part of the story as I had expected but the knowledge she has gained throughout her life is a huge focus of the story. I loved Gwen’s character because she just seemed so relatable, likable, sassy, and smart. I didn’t like how everyone looked down on her or talked crap about her. I get it, she’s an elf but she didn’t do anything to these people.
Gwennore soon learns that she can speak to dragons and forms a bond with her rescuer, Puff. It’s a bit of a slow burn romance, and there’s not much sensuality on the page. I liked the themes of overcoming prejudice, and fighting for what’s right, even when it’s uncomfortable and unappreciated. We get a decent amount about Sorcha, as she is an “Embraced” from Norveshka–Silas’ born sister in fact.
Raising my teenage daughter has been an educational experience and no one book has prepared me. Personally, I would have been pretty unhappy if my father had written a book about how difficult I was to raise. Though he clearly loves his children, I didn’t like the book. I listened to this book in the car, having only two discs it was a fast “read”.
